What does the word, “Pentecost” mean?
Guess whose birthday it is?
Matthew 16:13-20 (the only place “church” appears in the gospels.
The rest of the New Testament tells about Christ, His followers and the church Christ is building in and through them.
So, where is it best to see how Christ is building His church?
In Paul’s letters to the Ephesians and Colossians (the twin epistles).
In Ephesians, we find “the glory of the church in relation to Christ.”
Colossians offers: “the glory of Christ at the disposal of the church.”
Read Colossians 2:6-7 and 2:9-10
As with Timothy’s mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois (last week) what do you think are “faith essentials” Timothy learned growing up?
What “faith essentials” do you think the Colossians were “rooted in?”
Name any “faith essentials” you learned or passed on, remembering that Jesus commissions followers to “teach all that I commanded you!”
Following a great Biblical tradition of teaching to make disciples, ECO publishes: “Essential Tenets (of faith) and Confessional Standards” in its mission to “build and plant flourishing churches who make disciples of Jesus Christ.” I will try to summarize those essentials in personal terms.
